Sugar Wars
15th September 2015
Sugar damages many parts of your body, but it does particular damage to your teeth. For those that haven't had a chance to see 'That Sugar Film' it's worth a watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uaWekLrilY
In Australia current statistics show more than half of 6 year olds have decay in their baby teeth and 50% of 12 year olds are experiencing tooth decay in their permanent teeth! Most of this is caused by diets high in sugar.
The issue is a such a concern Jamie Oliver has gone on the offensive to save children's teeth from this sugary demise in his latest show (note: shots of surgery): 'Jamie's Sugar Rush'.
Given our current diets regular cleans and checks are more important than ever. 1 in 7 Australians experienced a tooth ache last year and 3 in 10 adults have untreated tooth decay which can lead to future complications and costly procedures.
Of course if you can stomach it - improving your diet is the ideal option. We would suggest giving particular care to avoiding regular consumption of the following:
- Sports drinks
- Energy drinks
- Soft drinks
- Chocolate
- Lollies
- Fast foods
- Sweetened breakfast cereals
- Muesli bars
